The team was created in the year 1882 and moved to the National League in the year 1892. Previously called the Brown Stockings and the Perfectos, the team plays at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis , Missouri . The Browns won four straight AA titles from 1885 to 1888, guided by two-time batting champion, outfielder Tip O’Neill. The team got its name altered to the Perfectos in 1899, but the team members began wearing new white and cardinals as there uniform in 1900, they were called Cardinals and the name stuck. Tony LaRussa became coach before the 1996 season. In 1998 first baseman Mark McGwire acquired 70 home runs. St. Louis made the postseason in 2000, 2001, and 2002 but lost in the playoffs each year. In 2004 the Cardinals won 105 games during their regular season and reached the World Series unfortunately they were beaten by the Boston Red Sox.
